QIDI TECH 3D Printer Review

Anyone familiar with the FlashForge Creator Pro will likely notice that the QIDI Tech 3D printer is practically an equivalent 3D printer. Both are also based on the MakerBot Replicator 2X. However, the QIDI is currently priced less than the FlashForge and much less than the price of the MakerBot while offering a similar ease of use and quality fabrication. Whether a novice hobbyist or an experienced engineer, the QIDI Tech device is a 3D printer worth looking at. 46 Users on Amazon who purchased this 3d printer review and rate it amongst the best at a 4.7/5.0. Though newer to the arena of 3D printing, the company responsible for introducing the more economical model created a machine with a number of attractive features, optional upgrades and excellent customer support.

QIDI 3D Printer Basics

The sturdily constructed QIDI Tech has a metal frame and weights little more than 46 pounds (21 kilograms). The desktop device measures 18.3 x 12.6 x 14.76 inches (465 x 320 x 375 millimeters) and features a heated printer bed that creates objects up to 9 x 5.9 x 5.9 inches (230 x 150 x 150 millimeters) with an overall print volume of 313 cubic inches or five liters. The plate is constructed from aviation grade aluminum, which prevents warping from the 120 Fahrenheit temperature. The circuitry has also been enhanced to prevent static while printing.

The printer comes well packed and nearly fully assembled. In addition to the printer, the box contains:

• 1 roll of ABS filament
• 1 roll of PLA filament
• 2 filament spool holders
• 1 roll of painter’s tape
• A USB cable
• Power cable
• 4GB SD card
• Wiring harnesses
• Filament tubing
• Wiring harness holder
• Tool Box complete with fasteners and tools
• Instructions

The assembly is straight forward and simple due to the easy-to-follow instructions on the SD card. Some find that the YouTube videos are also quite helpful for learning to get started. Users may become frustrated when looking for the SD card slot, because it is installed inside the printer on the lower right-hand platform corner. Mount the dual extruder into the cradle, mount the filament holders, the filament, and attach the plexi-glass top, walls and door. Having an extra pair of hands when installing the plexi-glass also reduces set-up time.

3D Printing with QIDI TECH

Connect the printer to a desktop PC or laptop and download the recommended MakerBot Replicator software. The printer is compatible with many different common operating systems from Linux and Mac OSX to Windows. Before starting an initial build, level the print platform according to the instructions. With the printer head positioned so close to the back of the bed, leveling can be a challenge.

The dual extruders enable multi-color printing in layer thicknesses that adjust from 0.1 to 0.3 millimeters. The machine functions either via the PC tether or the SD card. Later upgrades may include wireless function. The printer needs occasional recalibrating between builds. However, for the price and the quality of the prints, this is a minor inconvenience.

If using Cura, Slic3r and S3D to create precision parts, consumers must take into consideration that the finished object will be reduced by up to nine percent in both the X and Y directions. An object having a 10 millimeter size design ends up being reproduced at 9.1 millimeters. Avoiding the problem entails expanding the STL or G code to compensate.

3D Printer Support & Service

The QIDI Tech 3D printer does not have the option of an extended warranty. However, whether having difficulty with set-up, operation, damaged or missing parts, the company’s customer support team so what they can to ensure customer satisfaction. Staff members are known to respond quickly to emails and provide answers to questions, guidance and a wealth of helpful tips. Replacement parts also tend to arrive faster than expected. Depending on the part needed, the company may supply the need at no cost.

  1. QIDI Technology is a reliable quality source I can trust. The mighty board of my Flashforge was bricked due to upgrading with Sailfish firmware, I had to replace with QIDI motherboard. I got the mighty board from quick service of QiDi. After the replacement of the board, my 3D printer worked flawless as normal.

    • Layer resolution is 100 micron according to the QIDI TECHNOLOGY 3DP-QDA16-01 Dual Extruder Desktop 3D Printer specs.

  2. I purchased one of these printers and am excited to start using it. Unfortunately, the manual for it comes on an SD card that got misplaced. I haven’t been able to find the manual available online. Does any one have advice on how I might get a copy of the lost files somewhere?

    • Most regular hotends can get up to 240c without risking damage to the PTFE tube, yes. However, this is the absolute upper limit for temperature–do not go any higher unless you have upgraded to an all-metal hotend or you WILL damage it.

  3. Can someone please tell me the customer support for my new qidi 3d printer? I have some issues and need to contact them thank you so much!

  4. Hi all
